Choice of bicycle chain
The choice of bicycle chain is from three aspects:
1. Chain size specifications: There are three common chain size specifications: 1/2″ 1/8″; 1/2″ 3/32″; 1/2″ 11/128″, expressed by two numerical values, first The meaning of each value is the length of each link of the chain, which is generally 1/2″ for common bicycles.
The second value is the width of the chain. The 1/8″ chain is the widest and can be used on thicker chainrings. The 11/128″ chain is the narrowest and can only be used on thin chainrings. It is especially important here. Note that the 1/8″ chain is universal, that is, it can be used on other thin chainrings, but the 11/128″ chain must not be used on thick chainrings. Many exquisitely crafted chainrings will be marked on it. The width of the chain is required.
2, the transmission performance of the chain: For a transmission car, it is how many speeds to choose, such as the common 7-speed, 8-speed, 9-speed, 10-speed, etc. Front gearshift), the higher the speed level of the chain, the greater the twist angle of the chain is required. That is to say when the chain is working at the highest and lowest speed of the rear pulley, the front, and rear chainrings are not in a straight line, and the chain is twisted. Working in the state requires each joint of the chain to have enough clearance to cope with this distortion. High-speed chains can be used at low speeds, but low-speed chains cannot be used at high speeds. For example, 8-speed chains can be used on 7-speed tower wheels. If 7-speed chains are used on 8-speed cars, due to the twist angle of 7-speed chains When the gear is adjusted to the highest and lowest speed, the twisting angle exceeds the bearing capacity of the chain. This forced work will cause great damage to the chain and chainring, or even break the chain. Another thing to note is that even if you choose the right chain, it does not mean that your car is fine. Assuming that the bottom axle of an 8-speed car is too long, the smallest chainring (outermost) of the front chainring and the rear chainring are assumed. On a line, if you adjust to the lowest speed (the innermost chainring), the chain will be damaged due to excessive twisting. Therefore, the correct approach is to align the large chainring with the chainring in the middle of the rear pulley. This can be achieved by choosing different lengths of the bottom bracket. In addition, if the front gear has three large chainrings, then only a compromise can be considered, or a higher chain can be considered.
What role does the chain of a bicycle play?
The transmission function is to transfer the manpower on the foot to the rear wheel through the chain and convert it into mechanical energy.
And push the rear wheel to rotate. Thus the purpose of walking is achieved.
What are the specifications of the bicycle chain?
Bicycle chain sizes are generally divided into three categories (axis distance X inches):
1. 1/2″ X 1/8″;
2. 1/2″ X 3/32″;
3. 1/2″ X 11/128″.
The chain size of sports variable speed bicycles is basically 1/2″ X3/32″ and 1/2″ X 11/128″;
Among them, chains with 9 speeds and above are usually 1/2″ X11/128″, and chains with 8 speeds and below are usually 1/2″ X3/32″.
